Through strong leadership, Local 793 has stepped up to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. To keep its members safe and supported, the local led the way on jobsite safety checks to ensure members are safe and healthy at the end of each work day. Local 793 also provided to each member a $250 grocery gift card to help pay for COVID-19 related expenses and over 85,000 KN95 masks were distributed to its membership. Members of the Union that found themselves out of work due to the pandemic were able to access the Local 793 Emergency Relief Grant which provided a payment of up to $1,000 per 4-week period for up to 16 weeks. The local will also be launching a Supplemental Unemployment Benefit (SUB) Plan for future times of unemployment which will provide its members with a top-up benefit of up to $250 per week. Protecting members and their families remains Local 793’s top priority. Labour Day honours the struggles and gains made by workers and trade unions.
