Labour Day 2020 - OPSEU 162

OPSEU Local 162 represents members working at the LCBO in Windsor Essex, Chatham Kent as well as Pelee Island, representing 26 stores and over 300 members.

This year through COVID, Ford announced that the LCBO was now an essential service.  Local 162 worked hard and continues to work hard during the Pandemic to keep our customers, staff and Ontario Safe.

Health and Safety was our number one priority while becoming ”essentially yours”,  We continue to deep clean daily wear our PPE, cleaning immediately following cashing out customers, and products.  We have plexiglass barriers around the cash stations and offer hand sanitizing stations within our stores. We also have a maximum number of customers that can enter the store, to ensure social distancing.  The Local fought hard and worked hard to ensure everyone was safe at work and went home to their families during COVID-19.  The Local held weekly virtual check-ins with all members to ensure compliance and mental health while working through the pandemic and becoming Essential Workers.

We are in the midst of Pre Bargaining and Demand set as the Collective agreement expires March 31st 2021 and we are finding new and creativity ways to mobilize and engage our members for bargaining and in the same breath fighting Ford’s agenda of Buck a Beer and privatization of the LCBO.

The LCBO generates 2.6 Billion Dollars to Ontario’s coffers, providing funding to hospitals, schools, roads, as well keeping our kids safe with social responsibilities - Check 25.

Ford opened roughly 200 LCBOs across Ontario between 2017-2020 and allowing more Grocery stores to carry Beer, Wine and Ciders, the LCBO has 666 “real” LCBO outlets, with all profits going back into our community.

Local 162 thanks Windsor District Labour Council and our Community for shopping at the real LCBO. We ask you all to sign the Petition and join us when we have information pickets. Keep the LCBO Public.
