What a busy year it has been for COPE Local 343! Since Labour Day last year, we have been showing our support on the picket lines for SEIU Local 2 and our own COPE Local 343 members, who were on the picket lines on two different occasions with two different employers. We have also stood in solidarity with the workers in Belarus fighting for democracy, with frontline workers calling for paid sick days and proper PPE, with the LGBTQ2S+ community to call for the end of the blood ban for blood donations, and with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities to call for justice for residential school survivors and their families. We also hosted some events for our members, including a watch party for the Canadian Labour International Film Festival and workshops on mastering the media and how to use media to advocate for labour rights and causes. Although we cannot celebrate Labour Day in Windsor-Essex in person like we have done in years past, the fight for worker’s rights and human rights doesn’t stop, and we’ll keep on pushing. Happy Labour Day to all workers!
